Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle: Relive The Story Of Princess Aurora and Her Prince

Now You Can Feel This Fairytale Turn Into Reality By Walking Through Sleeping Beauty’s Castle In Disneyland

One cannot think of Disney without thinking of its trademark Disneyland Sleeping Beauty Castle standing in the middle of the theme park. It now stands together with Main Street, which has structures modelled to compliment the palace. With the German and French architecture inspired palace’s opening in July 1955, it has been regarded the as the oldest of all Disney castles. It has been replicated later on to serve as the park’s main symbol in Hong Kong.

Originally, the space for this palace was intended for something else. However, Walt Disney, who was present during its construction, wanted something more. He wanted the blank area to be employed for a special kind of attraction, hence the birth of the replica from the classic animation, which was modelled after Neuschwanstein castle in Germany. At October 2001, the castle was closed and was renovated. It was opened later in July 2008, with the same artwork but with a newer technology.

When the structure was finally erected, it became at once a popular tourist attraction. Tourists would certainly feel the magic of the enchanting story through the many dioramas placed inside. It is said that these can retell to audiences the story of Princess Aurora and her Prince Philip. In addition, these were designed after Eyvind Earle’s (the production designer) artwork in the movie Sleeping Beauty.

You Don’t Have To Be In California To Enjoy Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle

Aside from these, guests would truly feel like they are reliving the story of the Princess as they move through narrow castle passages and spiral staircases. This attraction was called as ‘The Sleeping Beauty Walkthrough.’ In 2008, the newer technology was able to retell the tale with a better way. As visitors navigate through the whole structure, they get to learn about the princess through 3D images.

In 2005, an identical version of the castle was built in the new Disneyland, Hong Kong. Similar to the one in California, it stands in the middle of the whole park and serves as the main icon of this fantasyland. Because of the prestige the company has gained with this structure, Walt Disney has used the castle as its logo in its various productions and animations.

Through the years, Disney castles in all over the world have fascinated children and adults. However, no one can forget the one that started it all: the Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland.
